It's a pretty great moment when your kids adopt the love of books you've tried to instill in them since day one. This is how I found my boy in the few minutes we had before leaving for swim lessons. He tears through these Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. We've also been listening to dozens of audiobooks in the car where they have been introduced to most of Roald Dahl's works, the Harry Potter series, and Ramona Quimby and Henry Huggins by Beverly Cleary. Which brings me to the next pictures...
Can I even tell you how long I have been trying to get him to ride his bike. There have been endless power struggles, tears, and frustration over this subject. Finally, after listening to Henry and Beezus, by Beverly Cleary, my E decided that he would also like to ride a bike, just like Henry, and he would like to have a paper route when he grows up, just like Henry. I was out mowing the lawn and he pulls his bike from the garage and asks me to help him push off. Before long he is going up and down the sidewalk without any help from me, and as happy as a lark. Go figure. Thank you to the power of characters in books.
